Industrial Climate & Policy

In supporting the growth of industrialisation in the country, the government has outlined its policies aimed at attracting investors by providing several incentives backed by sound infrastructure to meet the various needs of investors.

State Industrial Policies

In the late 1980īs, Selangor made major changes to its Economic Policy with preference given to industrial, housing and recreational development.  During the 1990īs, the industrial policy was directed towards capital-intensive and high-tech industries.

Federal Industrial Policies

The main incentives offered to investors as stipulated in the Promotion of Investment Act 1986 are as follows:-

  • Pioneer Status
  • Investment tax allowance
  • Exemption on double taxation
  • Incentives for training, research and development
  • Equity participation guidelines - some projects can be 100% foreign owned
  • Services of foreign expatriates are allowed
  • Liberalisation of the Stateīs foreign policy
  • Deregulation of policies on foreign labour
  • Creation of new industrial corridors
